There’s nothing worse than dog park ambiguity. You know what I’m talking about? You’re walking ol’ Rover in what you’re pretty damn sure is an off-leash dog area and then before you know it, some birdbrain is in your face yelling that your dog needs to be on a leash. Damn! We all know it’s important to get your dog off his or her leash for a run around once in awhile. Here are some of the best off-leash dog spots in Halifax.
Point Pleasant Park - 5718 Point Pleasant Drive
Point Pleasant Park may be the best of the best when it comes to dog parks in Halifax. It’s large and really popular in the summer, and it has plenty of well-maintained trails and interesting historical sites throughout the park.

Shubie Park - 20 Locks Road
Another beautiful dog park, this one is a bit out of the way in Dartmouth. Still, it’s worth the trip. It has some little dog beaches, clean paths, and ample parking.
Public Gardens Park - Spring Garden Road
Public Gardens Park is, of course, one of the most beautiful places in all of Halifax and a great spot to check out if you’re looking to see some beautiful nature and interact with some ducks. It also has off-leash dog areas, so it’s a great spot to take your pet.

Hemlock Ravine Park - 40 Kent Avenue
Hemlock Ravine Park is a kind of hidden gem, in that it is as large and as beautiful as Point Pleasant Park, but way less popular. It has a heart shaped pond, plenty of nice trails, and a lot of off-leash dog areas, so it’s a great spot to check out.
